Tennis court surfaces

The tennis court construction cost will depend on the type of material you choose for the surface. Our first service is to help you choose the ideal surface comprising of either an asphalt, synthetic or clay tennis surface. We will help you to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each type of surface to help ensure that you make the right decision.

  • This surface is especially popular for home tennis courts and commercial construction because of its ability to allow other sports to be played on it along with the fact that it has the least amount of maintenance compared to other surfaces – any sport you can play at home can be played on asphalt including basketball and hockey. The advantages of asphalt include: very little maintenance, ability to tailor the speed of the tennis ball and year round play.

    The disadvantages of asphalt include: possibility of major repairs after 10-15 years, slightly rough impact on the body and resurfacing must be done every 4-5 years.

  • This surface can be doubled up to use as a tennis court as well as a basketball court. The other advantages include: its minimal requirement for maintenance, perfect for sites that are hard to get to for installation and players can tailor the speed of their ball.

    The disadvantages of concrete include: tougher impact on the body, high cost, resurfacing required every few years and major repairs typically need to be done after 10 years.

  • This is our personal favorite court due to the fact that it has very little maintenance while providing impact relief for your joints.

    This surface can also be doubled up as a basketball court, furthering the return on your investment. The other advantages include: minimal need for maintenance, play can ensue year round, good for power players and cushioning will minimize the impact on the body.

    The disadvantages of cushioned surfaces include its high cost, its need for resurfacing every 4-5 years.

  • This surface has many advantages that the other surfaces do not including: lower temperature to keep players cooler, a surface that prevents injuries by allowing a bit of sliding, more control over the ball, long-lasting with required maintenance.

    The disadvantages of Har-Tru include: extensive maintenance done on a daily basis, cannot use year-round, needs watering and requires resurfacing every few years. The maintenance cost can be prohibitive thus making a cushioned or synthetic court a better choice.

  • Similar to the Har-Tru court, this court has many advantages: a surface that is 85 percent softer than the harder surfaces, control over the ball, cooler surface, long-lasting with required maintenance and it dries fast.

    The disadvantages of Hydro Court include: the need for daily maintenance, not able to be used year-round, high cost and requires resurfacing every few years.

  • Here you get the best of both worlds if you want a har-tru clay court. The advantages are a court which provides impact releif to your joints, does not require watering, dries considerably faster than clay courts and requires minimal maintenance.

    The disadvantage is that it needs to be replaced every 10-15 years.
